The North Queensland Sportstar Awards is held to recognize the achievements of our outstanding North Queensland Athletes across all sports.

The North Queensland Sportstar Awards is not only the ultimate recognition for all North Queensland Athletes, but a true celebration of sport across North Queensland.

Knowlesy is a Central QLD boy from Rockhampton. He made his fourth appearance in the men’s Olympic field hockey team in Rio as captain making his debut with the Kookaburras team in 2003.   He has had the privilege of playing, winning and experiencing Olympic, World Cup and Commonwealth Games tournaments.  The veteran announced his retirement from hockey in April 2018, after claiming Commonwealth Games Gold on the Gold Coast and given the honour of Commonwealth Games flag bearer for Australia.  

Since retirement Knowlesy has joined forces with the Queensland Academy of Sport as their Senior Personal Development Advisor.  He has a passion for coaching and being a quality role model for young people and promoting healthy lifestyles.  His community and charity work include Legends for Lifeline ambassador, Olympics Unleashed schools program ambassador and Steve Waugh Foundation charity bike ride.
