Boxing – Event Overview

This year Boxing Qld is introducing the North Qld Titles which will be awarded to the winners (of their respective divisions) in conjunction with the NQ Games.

Boxing Queensland is the governing body of amateur boxing in Queensland, Affiliated with Boxing Australia and AIBA.

Australia recently hosted the 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast. Out of the 13 Australian Boxers, Queensland had 4 representing their club, state & country. Queensland managed to secure 1 gold & 2 Bronze. Overall, the results for the Australian boxing team was the best ever at any Commonwealth Games. All of these athletes came through the ranks of Boxing Qld participating in club tournaments, regional tournaments just like the NQ Games, state & National Titles.

One of the biggest challenges we face in the North is of course our geographical location and the amount of travel that we are all faced with to compete at tournaments and unfortunately the only way to improve is to challenge yourself against other athletes on a regular basis, so we cover quite a large distance, quite often.

This year Boxing Qld is introducing the North Qld Titles which will be awarded to the winners (of their respective divisions) in conjunction with the NQ Games. Boxing Qld will coordinate a North Qld championship every other year and run it in conjunction with the NQ Games moving forward.

We are very pleased to say that the response to the NQ Games has been outstanding, we have clubs coming from – Victoria, NT, WA & all over Qld – Cairns, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Hervey Bay, Bundaberg, Bowen, Moranbah, Dysart, Middlemount, Townsville, Rockhampton & of course Mackay, with some 60+ athletes registering.
