Slide MOUNT ISA CITY COUNCIL
Sport is such an integral part of the Mount Isa community.

From the city’s early days, when immigrants from the UK and Europe set up soccer teams that were passionately supported by many locals, through to the establishment of popular rugby union, league and AFL teams and competitions, sport has featured vprominently throughout Mount Isa’s history.

These days the city proudly boasts the presence of many, varied sports codes, with locals participating or competing in netball, BMX racing, athletics, gymnastics, swimming, cricket, golf, field hockey, tennis, shooting, squash, softball, basketball, and even ten-pin bowling and go-karting.

Mount Isa has previously hosted Glencore Great Western Games competitions and is more than willing, ready and happy to host competitions for future Games.

Our city is blessed with fantastic facilities, such as Kruttschnitt Oval, Tony White Oval, Captain James Cook Park and Alexandra Park, which cater to cricket matches and various football codes. We can also boast having the Mount Isa Golf Course, the recently renovated Splashez Aquatic Centre and even a skate park, as well as two lawn-bowling greens.

Needless to say, Mount Isa is well-placed to play host to Glencore Great Western Games events and competitions and would gladly and warmly welcome teams from across this great region and state to stay and enjoy our facilities and soak up the great hospitality, history and community spirit that Mount Isa is well-known for.

We look forward to the 2019 Glencore Great Western Games.
