The North Queensland Sports Foundation and Cloncurrry Shire Council continued their support for the Move It NQ program by joint-funding a new outdoor kettlebell fitness class at Eddie Lee Field.

Occurring every Monday and Wednesday, Curry Fitness – Suffer in Silence is run by local Elliot Watson, and is a minimal equipment fitness program that consists of running intervals, kettlebell training and core training to improve day to day function

Since it’s first week in early July, the program has averaged over 22 attendees per session with participation numbers growing.

In the vein of sustainability, some minor equipment was purchased for the program which will remain property of Cloncurry Shire Council for use in further community programs moving forwards.

Regular participant Soti Siaana told us “(the program) has become an integral part of our lives, providing an inclusive and engaging environment where my children and I can participate together. The club’s commitment to community well-being is evident in its fun, supportive atmosphere, and the fact that it is free for everyone is a bonus.”

Cloncurry Local Susan McMillan also praised the joint-funded project.

“Thank you, Cloncurry Shire Council, and Move it NQ for facilitating free physical activity in our community. (Instructor) Elliot enthusiastically develops and runs sessions, that are suitable for different levels of fitness and flexibility and are designed to improve our communities physical and mental well-being. The benefits, Move it NQ and Elliot brings to our small, remote community range from supporting healthier and active lifestyles to meeting new people in a friendly, fun all-inclusive environment.”
