The North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF) is proud to announce a major achievement—funding and delivering 5,000 free community activity events across North Queensland!
The 5,000th free community activity was a community yoga event in Cook Shire, marking a significant milestone for the Move It NQ program. Over the past year, Move It NQ in Cook Shire has provided a diverse range of activities, including yoga, cricket, gymnastics, and walking classes, helping locals stay active and engaged. This initiative has been made possible through the ongoing support of Cook Shire Council and the North Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN).
A Regional Effort for Health and Wellbeing
Since its launch, Move It NQ has worked tirelessly to create accessible, community-driven fitness opportunities across regional Queensland. Program Coordinator Alexander Fisher highlighted the collective effort behind this milestone:
“It really is incredible. Obviously, it couldn’t have occurred without the ongoing support of partners such as the NQPHN, WQPHN, and Queensland State Government – but it’s particularly amazing that our affiliated communities supported us and allowed us to be involved with 5,000+ events through regional Queensland. A big, well-deserved thank you is also due to each and every single service provider that has helped deliver amazing community events, from yoga and Pilates to Aqua Fitness classes, youth basketball and tennis camps, and adult netball programs. Thank you.”
What’s Next for Move It NQ?
With 5,000 events completed, Move It NQ is far from slowing down. The program will continue expanding into more communities, ensuring even more North Queenslanders have access to free, inclusive, and engaging physical activity programs.
