Suncorp North Queensland Sportstar Awards a huge night for Atherton

Max Walker provides great entertainment

It was a stunning success for the city of Cairns as all three Cairns athletes won the top three awards at this year’s Suncorp North Queensland Sportstar Awards, held in March 2004 in Atherton.  The Merrilands Hall in Atherton was packed as the audience was entertained by the irreverent Max Walker, who enjoyed the atmosphere in what was a huge night for the Tablelands sporting community.  Benny Pike from WIN television ensured the crowd lapped up the stories of a sporting life by Max Walker, engaging in banter which was appreciated by the large crowd.

Swimmer Zoe Tonks won the Senior Award, gymnast Chloe Jackson received the Junior Award, and Heather Law took home a new Award this year – the Alan Ticehurst Memorial Award for Services to North Queensland Sport.
