Suncorp North Queensland Games coming to Mackay region in 2006

The Suncorp North Queensland Games will return to the Mackay region next Easter (14 to 17 April).

Recognised as Australia’s largest regional Games, the biennial, rotational event has been held a total of eleven times in the four major centres of Townsville, Mount Isa, Cairns and Mackay since its inception in 1984.

The twelfth Games to be held in the Mackay region (includes Bowen, Mirani, Nebo, Sarina and Whitsunday) next year will be the third time that the Games has been held in this region.

The previous Games held in 1990 and 1998 in the Mackay region were very successful, attracting large numbers of participants.

It is confidently predicted that the Games will include about 40 sports, and 4,000 competitors.

A meeting, to be hosted by Cr Don Rolls, Chair of the Mackay Region Organising Committee, is being held on Monday 11 April at the Reception Room at the Mackay City Council.

The meeting will be at 5.30pm, and information on the structure of the 2006 Suncorp North Queensland Games will be provided.

Sporting administrators are encouraged to attend the meeting.
