Changing of the Guard at the Foundation

After over 9 years (in two separate stints) in the position of Manager of the North Queensland Sports Foundation, Stuart Gibson will move on to new challenges from 1 October 2010. The departure date coincides with the Annual General Meeting of the North Queensland Sports Foundation.

He will be replaced by well known Townsville identity Col Kenna, who will officially take over the reins from the same date.

Stuart leaves the position with the best wishes of the North Queensland Sports Foundation and said “Whilst it will be strange not being part of the Foundation any more, I have had a great time in the role and it has been a very enjoyable experience. It has been a great pleasure to have worked with so many dedicated and committed sporting people in the best part of Australia – North Queensland. Likewise I have met some outstanding people in the various local governments in North Queensland. I have no intentions of leaving Townsville as I love the place and its community, and my family are very happy here.  I am sure that I will be keeping in touch with many people throughout North Queensland in the future and would not be surprised that I become a volunteer for future North Queensland Games. I would also like to thank the Board of the North Queensland Sports Foundation, and especially Sally Lambert who I worked with for over 8 years.”

Col Kenna is relishing the opportunity to continue the important work that is conducted by the North Queensland Sports Foundation, and is keen to get started on the activities of the organisation including the 2011 Western Games and of course the 2012 North Queensland Games to be held in Mackay. The calendar of events for 2011 is being compiled in readiness for distribution via the annual calendar before Christmas. Col has been involved in sport in North Queensland and in particular with the Brothers Rugby Union club. He has also gained a wealth of experience in his career and was recently very much involved with the film Beneath Hill 60 which was shot in Townsville.
