Move It NQ & Carpentaria Launch Free Weekly Bootcamp

Bynoe Move It officially launched on 9th November 2021 with 21 youths attending the first session. Which included fun fitness games such as basketball, Edor, a popular Indigenous game, and a fitness circuit. Taren Carr, from Bynoe said it’s been a great success so far “the kids are already asking me when the next session is! After some fun games we are taking them through some basic exercises and giving them an understanding of what muscles are used and why we exercise so it really links with building healthy lifestyle habits.”

The program is an exciting addition to Normanton as there are currently no regular classes for this youth age group and will assist in promoting positive behaviours and a more inclusive community. “An active body is a healthy body and anything that gets our kids outside and interacting socially, as opposed to going home and sitting on the couch watching TV is a positive for our community” said Sharon Robinson, Bynoe CACS Programs Administrator.

Carpentaria Shire Council Manager of Economic and Community Development Cherie Schafer said, “Council understands the significance of keeping a healthy active community and for this reason we partnered with Move It NQ to deliver this program to benefit overall community health and wellbeing and promote lifelong health behaviours.”

Move It NQ is one of the projects of the North Queensland Sports Foundation, aimed at supporting healthier and active lifestyles. Through the successful development of evidence-based strategies and delivery of community physical activity programs across North Queensland, Move It NQ has become a leader in driving health-related outcomes across the region.
