Applications for the 2022 CQUnicares North Queensland Sports Foundation Scholarship is now open. The scholarship provides recognition and financial assistance to an elite athlete or coach (recognised by the Elite Athlete Friendly University) who resides in our NQ Member Council footprint and is commencing the first year of a Bachelor course.

This is a fantastic opportunity for our young North Queensland Athletes who wish to develop their sporting careers and further their education whilst remaining in North Queensland. Many of our young regional athletes are confronted with the decision to relocate to further their sporting careers and further their education at an early age. This can prove too much for some who succumb to the situation and fail to reach their potential. The CQUnicares NQSF Sports Scholarship financially supports athletes who remain in NQ assisting with the transition.

2021 Scholarship recipient Kelly Munt, says the degree has furthered her existing knowledge across many areas relating to sport, skill acquisition, and programming, allowing her to reflect, adapt and apply this new knowledge to her training practices within the club’s competitive programs.

“A scholarship is more than just financial assistance, it is a recognition that a student has demonstrated the drive, initiative, and potential to make a difference in their field, and a student the institution is proud to stand behind.”

Current scholarship holder, Madeline Prizeman credits her scholarship in helping to maintain focus on her sporting and study goals. “I am so very appreciative of being awarded the CQUniCares North Queensland Sports Foundation Scholarship,” she said.

“This scholarship has already helped me continue sport whilst studying at CQU and given me the greatest opportunity to excel in Water Polo and advance my knowledge in the field of Criminology and Psychology.”

The High Performance Sports Scholarship Program is a very unique opportunity for our young NQ Athletes providing financial support within the NQ region. A number of sporting codes have developed strong resources and infrastructure in regional North Queensland which allows athletes to develop whilst residing in North Queensland.
