North Queensland Sports Foundation announces new Chief Executive Officer

The North Queensland Sports Foundation Chair, Councillor Rhonda Coghlan on behalf of the Board of Directors, is pleased to announce the appointment of Alexander J. Fisher as the new Chief Executive Officer.

Alexander has been appointed following a period as Acting CEO. He brings an energetic and innovative approach to the Foundation, established in 1983, as we look to capitalise on the increased community engagement and interest in Sports and Recreation approaching the Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We also take this opportunity to extend our sincere gratitude to outgoing CEO, Stephen Farrell, for his leadership and dedication. Stephen has served in the top role over two periods, contributing a total of nine years to the Foundation. His commitment and passion have been instrumental in advancing sport and active living in North Queensland.

We wish Stephen all the best in his next chapter and warmly welcome Alexander to the team.

Quotes attributable to Alexander J. Fisher, CEO of the NQSF:

“I’d like to thank the Board of Directors for their ongoing support and commitment to improving community sport & recreation outcomes in our communities. Particularly, I’d like to thank our Chair, Cr Rhonda Coghlan for her ongoing support and advice, and the outgoing CEO in Stephen Farrell for his years of leadership and insights while working for the NQSF

It’s an honour to lead an organisation with a 42+ year storied history in my backyard of North Queensland, and I’m very excited to share what we’ve been working on soon with our Annual Sports Awards coming to Townsville in 2025, repositioning the NQ Games in the leadup to Brisbane 2032, an announcement regarding the NQ Sports Hall of Fame, and our upcoming community sports app with the extremely talented Olympian/Digital Trailblazer Tori West.”

The NQSF is funded by 23 Local Government Authority Councils across the region, with a mission to lead and advocate for the development of sport and recreation across North Queensland.

Key events in their portfolio include the Annual NQ Sportstar Awards, The NQ Games held biennially since 1984, The NQ Sports Hall of Fame and free funded community events through their Move It NQ brand.
